LOCAL TAXES FOR A PEARL JEWELRY ANS LOWERING DECLARED PRICE AS A LEGAL WAY TO LOWER THEM

Fair Pearls ship products international by using FedEx and Tikki services. Other companies are simply don’t have a license for transferring pearls or pearl jewelry out of Indonesia. Each parcel we register in mentioned companies as it should be by Indonesian laws and special regulations applied to any pearl-related products shipped out of the country of origin. We are paying fees and taxes full, but in some countries of destination there could be applied local entry fees and taxes as well. Such taxes could be as high as 20% of declared product prices.

To lower weight of extra payments for a buyer Fair Pearls declare product prices around 25%-30% less than they should be. But even after such procedure entry fees and taxes for bought items (usually with a price tag higher than $1000) could be pretty high.

Let’s assume that buyer bought a pearl set for $2500. Our regular declared price for such item could be around $1700. For example, if buyer lives in Australia, he should pay to FedEx some extra: Duty Fee $115, GST $245, Entry $90 ($445 in total). In different countries such fees are different too.

Fair Pearls can help to lower amount of fee from a buyer’s country. We can try to lower declared price below 1000usd. It can make shipping little risky (if FedEx loose or damage parcel, then shipping company will restore these $1000 only), which is by far not enough to cover loses. The good news is that FedEx are loosing costumer parcels really rare (1 or 2 cases in 16.000 cases). Considering such statistic, there could be an agreement between buyer and seller: if in a case of lost shipment buyer will agree to restore 33% of lost item’s value, than seller will prepare similar to the original parcel and send it to a buyer again. Overall formula looks like this: if original price of an item (paid by a customer) is $1500, and the declared to FedEx price is $500, than if parcel will be lost, buyer pay extra $500 (33%)to reorder similar item. In such case buyer risk to lose $500 to save $400. Again, the possibility of such unfortunate event is very rare. Chance that parcel will be lost or badly damaged is approximately 1 or 2 out of 16.000! And there is no record in FedEx history that they lost a replacement parcel from the same seller! Also, the bright side is that even the parcel will be lost once, you will save more money than if just such item will be sent by its original price.

Considering information provided above, you can ask Fair Pearls to send you ordered item with “Yes, minimize declared value”. You can do that by filling special checkbox processing your order, or just by contacting us by any way possible (e-mail, chat, etc). Fair Pearl is using such shipping approach for years for some clients. And some of them saved no less than $2000 already. Please be aware, that lowering a declared price to a shipping company is absolutely legal, because all taxes are paid by seller locally from a full price already. The tricky part is about laws of country of destination which are not applied to me and my workers as Indonesian citizens. All risks are taken by shipping companies, that are used to work with all existent rules and limitations of international laws. They know how to avoid and how to “bend” existing regulations to continue to run their business successfully.
